The sky above Mount Helmos has something truly magical about it. Far from city lights, every night at Orias becomes an authentic stargazing experience. Here, at the foothills of Helmos, the sky opens wide, clear and filled with stars.

Mount Helmos is home to the “Aristarchos” telescope, the largest in the Balkans, while the area is ideal for observing planets with the naked eye or with simple equipment. Every night is an opportunity for a small exploration of the universe and, why not, for a conversation about how the name of Kalavryta has even traveled as far as Mars, giving its name to a region of the Red Planet thanks to a Greek NASA scientist.

During specific periods of the year, in collaboration with the Hyperion team, we host telescope observation sessions at Orias, both solar and nighttime. Through the solar telescope, guests can safely admire details of the Sun’s surface, such as sunspots and prominences, while the night telescopes offer the unique opportunity to see Saturn with its rings, Jupiter with its moons, and various constellations up close.
